By-Laws
Article I – Name:
The name of the ladies golf association at Brier Creek
Country Club shall be Ladies Golf Association. It
shall be organized to be a private golf and social
organization composed of lady golfers who are golf or sports
members of Brier Creek Country Club in good standing or
designees under a membership owned by a spouse or
corporation paying monthly dues to Brier Creek Country Club.
Article II – Purpose:
The purpose of the organization shall be to promote friendly
competition and fellowship among lady golfers at Brier Creek
Country Club.
Article III –
Membership: Membership in
the Ladies Golf Association is open to all lady golfers at
Brier Creek Country Club who are in good standing.
Article IV – Dues:
Dues for membership in the Ladies Golf Association shall be
recommended by the Board and approved by the General
Membership. Dues are renewable by the first play date
of the season. Membership dues shall be used for any
expenses approved by the Ladies Golf Association Board of
Directors.
Article V – Meetings:
There will be at least one general membership meeting each
calendar year. Additional meetings may be called by
the President. At general membership meetings, members
present constitute a quorum. Seven members are
required to petition the Board in writing to call any
special meeting. Board of Directors meetings require a
quorum of 2/3 of its members.
Article VI – Election
of the Board of Directors:
The President shall appoint a Nominating Committee of three
(3) persons, at least one of whom is not a current board
member. The election will be held at the
End of the Year Meeting in November so that the new Board
may begin planning in January of the following year. The
nominating committee shall make every effort to include
ladies from a cross section of its membership. Members
of the Nominating Committee may not be nominated by the
Nominating Committee. Any member in good standing,
including those on the nominating committee, may be
nominated from the floor. If a vacancy occurs during
the season, it shall be filled by a person chosen by the
Board of Directors.
Article VII – Board
of Directors: The Board of
Directors shall consist of seven (7) elected members who
will each serve a two-year term and will include the
following positions:
Section I – President:
The President shall preside at all meetings. The
President shall also serve as Liaison to the General Manager
and Golf Professional of Brier Creek Country Club. The
President shall also forward all information regarding the
Ladies Golf Association to the Club for the Monthly
Newsletter.
The President of the current year
shall succeed as Advisor for the
following year.
The Advisor (Past President) shall offer advice as needed or
when called upon by the President or Board of Directors on
past, present, or future practices of the Ladies Golf
Association. The Advisor is not a voting member of the Board.
Section II – Vice
President: The Vice President shall assist the
President and perform all duties in the President’s absence
as designated by the Board of Directors. It is recommended
that the Vice President of the current year succeed as
President for the following year.
Section III –
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall collect dues and
record all financial transactions of the Ladies Golf
Association, pay all approved bills and other expenses by
issuing checks, report receipts, expenditures and present a
financial report at all meetings.
It is recommended that the Treasurer serve as chairman of
the Awards Committee.
Section IV –
Secretary: The Secretary shall record the minutes
of all business and Board of Directors meetings. She
shall also have charge of all correspondence and papers of
the Ladies Golf Association, including letters concerning
outside tournaments or events. Minutes shall be
available to any member upon request.
It is recommended that the Secretary serve as chairman of
the Membership Committee.
Section V – Members
at Large: Three Members at Large will serve as
Committee Chairs as designated by the Board of Directors.
Article VIII –
Voting: Any questions or
changes that are brought to a vote shall be decided by a 2/3
majority of the members present at the “stated” or “called”
meetings as described in Article V of these By-Laws,
including any changes in the By-Laws. Any By-Laws
changes shall be published 30 days prior to scheduled vote
and shall be decided by a 2/3 majority of the association
and approved by the Club Management.
Article IX –
Tournaments: Club sponsored
tournaments shall be open to all women golfers with
membership at Brier Creek Country Club, including
non-association ladies. Tournaments subsidized by the
Ladies Golf Association dues shall only be open to Ladies
Golf Association members in good standing. Tournament
Rules shall be governed by USGA rules of golf and local
rules of Brier Creek Country Club where applicable.
Article X –
Handicaps: Official USGA
handicaps for members shall be required before members can
enter any tournament sponsored by the Ladies Golf
Association.
Article XI –
Calendar: Playing season
shall be determined by the Board of Directors and announced
at the end of the year dinner.
